NorCal Soy and Tofu Festival (June 4)

For the past couple months since I've been back in San Francisco, I've been a part of Nakayoshi which is a young adults (mostly in their late 20s-30s) social and volunteer group for the Japanese American Community. It's pretty much an extension of many of the Nikkei Student Unions and Japanese American Societies on many of the UCs and CSU campuses. It's nice to be back and giving back to my community as well as meeting new people as well as those that I've lost contact in the last 10 years!

This particular event was the Soy and Tofu festival which featured, you guessed it, soy and tofu products but also soy related merchandise (tofu character tshirts anyone?) as well as performances, eating contests, dancing, and a cooking contest.

We had our very own stand in which we sold mabo tofu, as well as fried tofu sushi, and soy gelatin desserts which were actually quite good! I love soy but it's not as popular in Europe (well it's starting to get popular but terribly expensive) so it was such an eye opener to see how far the US has come in accepting soy products. Hopefully it'll keep on growing! I <3 all things soy

The mabo tofu was actually quite good, kudos to our kitchen cooking crew!

There's even a tofu mascot!

Japanese dancing by the San Jose Taiko crew

Trying and judging soy desserts for the cooking contest, yum!
